A Voice of Resilience
about haneen sabbah
Haneen Sabbah, a Palestinian Falahi mother now based in southern Portugal, is a passionate advocate for her homeland and a voice of resilience. Her journey began in Gaza, where she witnessed firsthand the struggles of living under siege. As a writer for We Are Not Numbers, she shed light on the lives of women in Gaza, and through her contributions to Global Voices, she amplified stories that often go unheard.
Beyond her writing, Haneen is an active organizer, raising awareness about Palestinian culture and issues through events in Portugal. She has organized film screenings and co-hosted cultural events to bring the community together in support of Palestine. Her work extends to participating in retreats focused on healing and peace activation, where she explores the use of plant medicine and psychedelics for personal and collective healing.
Haneen's recent involvement in the Uniting in Our Humanity Gathering and the Medicine Festival with Ripples Collective reflects her commitment to fostering peace and reconnecting with the wisdom of her ancestors. Through these events, she seeks to bring heart and healing into activism, bridging the gap between inner peace and outward action.
A storyteller at heart, Haneen shares her personal experiences in both online and offline community events. She has also received training in peace activation and trauma-informed approaches, which she uses to create healing spaces for her community in Gaza and beyond. Her support extends to initiatives like Save Gaza Children, where she helps provide aid to injured children and supports displaced families in need.
Haneen also teaches Arabic online, connecting with international students and American Jews who stand in solidarity with Palestine. Her lessons go beyond language, offering a cultural and historical perspective that helps her students reconnect with their Arab roots.
Having left Gaza in 2018, Haneen moved to a community where she learned the principles of peace work and non-violent communication. This experience inspired her to advocate for nonviolent resistance and to promote Palestinian culture through songs, food, and stories. Her work is rooted in love, aiming to create a peaceful world where cultural heritage and community healing are celebrated.
